Recycled Tire Gardens

Annually about 40 million tires are thrown away, each year and just dumped in Streams, Rivers, Ocean and Landfills  But we can turn Junk  into Beautiful  Gardens

this is a Cheap and Easy Way to make beautiful Gardens
 and you are helping to Protect  Mother Earth by Recycling

You Need

    Tires  how many & Size depends on your Garden you are making

 Weed Block  you can also use Landscape Fabric or Weed Barrier
 you find this at home depot or Lowes or other gardening centers 

                                   This is what Weedblock looks like   
                    it lets water out but not the soil also its thick so insects cant dig into it and keeps the weeds out too

you need a Stapler Gun 

Spray paint

I have found that Krylon  works best
they have many colors and easy to use

if you are putting Patterns on the Tires then get Painters Tape 

this is what I mean by Patterns  

Potting soil  and Plants* 
Read at the bottom of blog for list of plant ideas 


step 1. clean your tires out get out any Grease or oils
 use a Degreaser they also have Green organic Degreasers 

Step 2. Staple or pin the Weed block on the bottom of the Tire
make sure  it is tight and  on all sides so soil wont leak out

Step 3. Spray your Tires whatever color or pattern you Desire
Let it dry   this may require several coats  
or you can leave it plain if desired .  

Step 4.  Fill with Soil and plants. Flowers

How to make your own Dragon Fossils

                        The Dragons are Ancient  as Ancient as the universe itself 
                 so try this fun and educational  Craft to Teach Young about Dragons
                           Plus who wouldn't Love to have a Dragon Fossil  



What You'll Need:



Plaster of Paris

Small Bones  ( chicken bones Meat removed , Rib Bones Meat Removed  Cow Bone  etc  you can get Bones at Butcher shops and at supermarkets or from Last nights Dinner ) 
Petroleum jelly

Water
Sand
Dirt, or Coffee grounds 

Lacquer
Disposable pie tins  like aluminum

Paint is optional but if you do Paint them make them look old / Ancient with Rust colors or natural stone colors 

 Dragons  bone Template 

you can also base your Dragon Fossils after Dinosaurs  and modern day Reptiles like Lizards or Alligators 
but you want to exaggerate the Fossils to look mystical and Ancient  




Instructions

Step 1: Mix plaster of paris according to manufacturer's directions (typically one cup of water to one cup of plaster). Use a quarter cup of Coffee, or Dirt with every three-quarter cups of water; this will give the fossils an antiqued look, versus the stark white of plaster of paris.


Step 2: Coat the bones with petroleum jelly.

Step 3: Create a fossil Dragon skull or small Dragon Bones with  the bones on a patch of plaster. Spread the plaster as above, then, press the bones into the plaster in a fairly good (but flattened) representation of the dragon bones shape.( look at template above ) For an extra effect, press stones that have a scale like shape into the surrounding plaster to create an impression, then remove the stones to give the appearance of Scale . Dust the drying fossil with loose earth or sand, and bake as per manufacturer's instructions.

Step 4. Fashion dragon teeth out of plaster. These are typically conical and fang shaped, slightly curved and broken off at the base. You may create your teeth and stand them up on, for example, a cookie sheet. Do not dust with earth or sand, as you did the other fossils. Bake as usual, and when they are cool and dry, spray the fossils with lacquer when they are cool and dry, for that smooth fossil look. Bury the teeth near your other fossils.


Step 4: let everything dry. This will take at least one day.

Step 5: When the plaster of Paris is completely dry, Paint the Bones if desired to make them look ancient or leave them alone and coat them with Lacquer  then rub them down with sand to give them a grainy ancient effect  

Now you can do whatever you want with them 
Decorate them on your Altar   fun for kids to teach them about Fossils make a game out of it do a fossil hunt  have fun!!!
